Athlete's Foot
Athlete's foot, or tinea pedis, is a fungal infection which usually occurs between the toes and the soles of the feet. This fungus thrives in dark, warm, moist environments, such as your shoes. In such an environment, the fungus can spread and infect other area of the body, as well as facilitate transmission of the disease in communal areas, such as locker rooms and showers.
The same fungus that causes Jock Itch also causes Athlete's Foot. Most of the time, a person that has Athlete's Foot will unknowingly transfer the fungus to their groin region while putting on clothing or washing themselves. It is very important to treat both outbreaks and your environment in order to prevent cross contamination.
